Three ways to instantly change your bedroom by switching up your headboard

Plan the décor of your bedroom around a beautiful headboard

Yes, bedrooms are about comfort, crisp linen and setting a mood, but when you’re decorating on a budget, don’t underestimate the value of a statement headboard. It can add some unique style, a flash of colour or just be a great design element that pulls a room together. If you’re looking for a little inspiration, here are three of our favourite looks.

Bleed one or two colours from the focal piece or a bit of a complementary print into a couple of elements around the room. We did this with a few throw cushions and a lampshade.

1.    The Printed Headboard
A multicoloured floral headboard can be striking. More so when it’s the focal point in an otherwise muted overall look. If you’ve been wondering how to unify your love for colour and crisp, minimal white bed linen, this might just be the style for you.

2.    The Tufted Headboard
If you love the old-world glamour of a tufted headboard, but prefer skipping the dated styling, try this headboard on for size. In luxurious coral velvet, it can add elegant sophistication to any bedroom.

Getting the height right is essential. Too high and velvet can overpower the room, too low, and it will cut into your back uncomfortably. Tufted headboards should ideally be like great supporting actors, adding depth and character.

The soft greys, dull gold finishes and clean lines make this style perfect for a contemporary home.

3.    The Wooden Headboard
One way of embracing the finer details is to recreate this grooved, wooden headboard against a punchy contrasting wall. Get up close and personal with the grain of the wood, textured organic bed linen and a look that spells cool and natural.
