A round-up of accessories made of the material designers are obsessing over right now
The humble potter’s medium—terracotta (baked earth in Italian)—is staging a comeback. “Yes, it requires care and maintenance,” says Aanchal Goel, head of design, Objectry “but it’s alkaline, porous and healthier than plastic. It comes from the earth and goes right back when you’re done with it, making it the ultimate sustainable and biodegradable material.”
Being sustainable isn’t the only thing that puts this material in the spotlight. Parul and Mooshir Vahanvati, directors and principal designers at Rayden like “the fact that it matures—changes colour and develops a non-stick property—with use”.
We’ve scoured the marketplace to bring to you our favourite pieces—all made of this ancient-yet-cool material.
