Spaces we love: Bar Palladio, Jaipur

European sensibilities meet Mughal influences in this tastefully done up restaurant in Jaipur

It’s got everything that makes our heart race a little faster; Breath-taking views, sumptuous décor, and peacocks wandering across a palace from the 1920s. It’s easy to slip into a world of fantasy where you are wearing that bejewelled crown, walking in a courtyard lined with tented pavilions and a pathway dotted with candles.

Italian owner Barbara Miolini dreamed of the Bar Palladio as a place where people from across the globe could come together share their stories, find inspiration, and unwind. Dutch designer Marie-Anne Oudejans worked with this vision to arrive at the design for this stunning space located within a daringly restored garden belvedere in the historic Narain Niwas Palace Hotel.

Inspired by the iconic Caffé Florian and Harry’s Bar in Venice, Bar Palladio got its name from the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. If you equated Rajasthani décor with kitsch, then it’s time you evaluated that again. With its bright blue walls, delicate brass lanterns, and hints of white, Bar Palladio is a perfect example of what careful curation can do to a space. Here, the European sensibilities of Barbara and Marie-Annie along with their love for local heritage as resulted in a space that is elegant, exquisite – one that into its past for inspiration.
