Go through these 5 ideas to decorate your Entryway shared by Disha Bhavsar and Shivani Ajmera, co-founders of Mumbai based interior design and styling company Quirk

The first impression is most often the last impression, and don’t we all want to wow our guests the minute they step inside the home? So pay attention to how you decorate your entryway. Says Shivani Ajmera, “It should reflect your personal as well as home style and seamlessly transition into your space.”

  • Make it pretty
According to the Quirk Studio duo, there are few essentials for this place – accent mirror, console or shelf, statement lights, rug or runner and a shoe rack which doubles up as a seat. Says Shivani, “…explore several styles while designing your entryway – from modern and bold patterns to eclectic and traditional.” Disha Bhavsar adds, “The ideal entryway would have bold patterned flooring with subtle textured wallpaper on one wall. The opposite wall can have a mirror and a stunning console with flowers and candles. A jewel-toned bench with pieces of art and statement lights finish the look.”

  • Fake it
“Many homes enter straight into the living rooms. So it is important to create an illusion of an entryway by placing a partition or bookshelf,” recommends Shivani. Try creating an alcove and use bold colours or printed wallpaper to set it apart. Consider a slim credenza or repurpose a simple, open shoe rack – use the top tier as a shelf for curios and the bottom ones for shoes.

  • Simplify
For a clean look, consider elegant wall hooks and a pretty bench. Says Disha, “Don’t clutter your entryway with multiple, small pieces. Instead use larger, statement pieces for a dramatic impact with functionality.” Have designated areas for essentials to lessen clutter.

  • Bring in the art
Hang framed artwork right up to the ceiling for an elongated effect. “To make it stand out from the rest of the house make use of textured wall paint with art pieces or family photographs,” recommends Disha.

  • Store it
It’s important to consider how the entryway can be used for extra storage, especially in a small apartment. “If you have any vertical or horizontal niches, flush them and convert them into a concealed storage space. A bench seating can also double up as a shoe rack underneath,” says Shivani.
For some old school charm, create a feature wall with antique tiles in traditional patterns. Pair it with vintage looking furniture to complete the setting.
The entryway is also an excellent place to showcase your artwork collection.
A sleek console paired with a statement mirror can go a long way in uplifting the entryway. Keep it fresh with a few greens for a restrained look.
Carpets or dhurries are an effective way of demarcating spaces. You can use peg boards to pin your child’s drawings, to-do lists or reminders.
