Alright, we’ll say it. Most of us take the ceilings for granted. It usually just follows the norm of being white or a barely-there pastel shade, while all our energies are directed towards getting the furniture, lights and everything else just right.
An unusual ceiling can enhance the atmosphere of the bedroom design, especially in a small space such as the bedroom. Remember, your bedroom is a private space, you can decorate it anyway you want, so don’t be afraid to bend the rules a bit. To give your bedroom that old-world vibe, think about installing wooden beams and rafters over a false ceiling. This helps reduce height and creates a cosy feeling, by making a space more compact. In small spaces however, it can make you feel confined.
Just because you have used decorative wallpaper on the walls, doesn’t mean you have to keep the ceiling vanilla. Take a different approach and use a complementing wallpaper there too. A white cornice can provide some breathing space between the pattern heavy surfaces.
Another way to upgrade your ceiling is by using plaster of Paris mouldings. These are quite intricate and give a royal look to the ceiling. These can also be used in multiple ways – either as a complete design or as an outline to define a certain space on the ceiling.
