Black and white bathroom ideas

Work the classic colour combination into your bathroom with some inspiration from our favourites

We’re all for bright splashes of colour in the house. Sometimes though, they can get a bit too much. While reds, yellows and oranges all make a strong case for the living room, bedroom and even kids’ rooms, there’s one place we’d like to escape from all their chaos – the bathroom.

The bathroom is where you can escape to after a tiring day at work or even when you just want some downtime. At these moments you don’t want bright colours jumping up at you. Why not give the good ol’ black and white combination a spin? There are endless permutations to this classic pairing and since the bathroom is an inherently personal space, you can have it any way you want!

If you’re not too keen on using a lot of black in your bathroom, try walking the subtle path. Use black fixtures such as mirrors, lamps and basin countertop. Another interesting way of incorporating the charcoal hue in your bathroom is by using dark grouting for white tiles instead of white cement.
Use black as a highlighter to define countertops, bathtubs or shower cubicles and the WC areas. This way, the dark shade doesn’t overpower the other elements in your bathroom, but complements them to make each one stand out individually.
Use glossy black tiles as a wall dado to break the monotony of white in your bathroom. For the flooring, think about using a classic mosaic pattern to incorporate the dark shade.
Leave no grey areas in your bathroom with a clear and simple demarcation of black and white. White walls stand in stark contrast to the dark floor and ceiling, which almost seem to be mirroring each other.
