Incorporate a traditional aesthetic into your home with inspiration from the features in The Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort & Spa, Siswan Forest Range, New Chandigarh
We love that the recently opened Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort & Spa, Siswan Forest Range, New Chandigarh blends traditional Indian architectural elements like scalloped arches and hand-painted gold-leaf murals with Victorian and Colonial décor features like glass chandeliers and antique furniture in light-filled, creamy white spaces.
To elevate neutral palettes like off-white, grey and beige, include pops of colour. Vibrant yellows, ochres, deep reds and shades of blue have been used for upholstering dining chairs and throw cushions. Usually calm blues and greens work well in smaller rooms while warm colours like burnt orange, yellows and reds are better suited to larger spaces.
Elements like brass-framed doors, ornamental cornices, French doors, four-poster beds and vintage pictures with gilded frames add a luxurious touch. Including all these features at once might become overbearing in a small space, so try a few elements with simple detailing. You could also give marble and teak flooring a go to demarcate different zones in the room.
Another decor idea you can emulate is using different materials in the same room – wood, enamel, glass and wicker can add layers and texture. Their window dressing for instance features patterned blinds layered with sheer drapes. The muted ivory on ivory adds luxury without being over the top.
