Summertime Villa, Goa

By Tasneem Merchant

Borrow from Summertime’s wood, cane and sunny colours aesthetic for serene interiors in your own home

If you think you’ve seen it all in Goa, Summertime luxury villa in Calangute will make you think again. This boutique hotel exudes a country home vibe with tall columns and terracotta shingled roof. Inside, the living room boasts a double heighted ceiling and cane furniture propped with comfy cushions. However, it’s the airy suites that get our vote. Each of the three suites featuring distinct colour schemes but consistent layout, look out to different views.

For maximising the breeze and sunlight in your house, take a cue from the villa’s spacious living room with floor to ceiling windows. Opt for French windows in your home to drench it with sunlight. Contrary to what the design rulebook says, the rooms in your house can be all different colours. However, to maintain some consistency, some elements could remain constant. For instance, the flooring in all the rooms or even the kind and type of furniture used could be the same. Lastly, pile up the rugs and dhurries to demarcate separate areas in your house, as is done in Summertime to distinguish the reading corner from the rest of the bedroom.

Want to create a home office in your room but facing space constraints? Invest in a small secretaire and chair. Push these against a bare wall, place your laptop and files on top and your own work corner is ready. To make the setting less sombre, include a few fun art prints or funky cushions.
Get inspired by this reading corner for one in your own bedroom. Make the most of sunlight pouring in from the windows by placing two cushy armchairs near it. Add a neutral hued rug, floor lamp, some greens and get ready to be transported to another world while reading.
Don’t limit colour blocking to just your sartorial choices. Include them in your décor as well, as is done in the Coral Suite of Summertime. The otherwise white furnishings have been expertly paired with deep pinks to create a two-tone room. Keep the patterns to a minimum for greater impact.
Almost as big as a separate room, the bathroom of the Koi Suite at Summertime features an Italian marble bathtub. Colourful dhurries demarcate the wet and dry areas effectively. You can do the same in your bathroom – get bath mats in different, vibrant colours to create a division of space.
