Take décor notes from the whimsical interiors of sketch, London
To define sketch as merely a restaurant would be missing the point. sketch was conceived as a destination for food, art and music by restaurant veteran Mourad Mazouz in London.
Spread across two spacious floors of a converted 18th century building in London’s Mayfair area, sketch has different sections that are all compellingly different in their décor treatment. The Gallery at sketch has 239 works by celebrated artist David Shrigley that line its walls, with the interiors styled by designer India Mahdavi. Even the ceramics and tableware used at the Gallery have been designed by Shrigley. The pink pastel-led interiors and funiture are on point now more than ever, with playful velvet seating that reminds you of a bubblegum themed Alice in Wonderland tea party. On the other side of the decor spectrum is the Lecture Room and Library area at sketch, which has been created by designer Gahban O’Keeffe and employs a striking yellow and red colour palette, with plush velvet upholstery and riveted walls. The Parlour space will transport you to the 20th century salon of an imaginary society figure with its use of intimate lighting and vibrant suede and patterned upholstery. The Glade has been created by artists Carolyn Quartermaine and Didier Mahieu and interprets the idea of an enchanted forest. If this is more your style, consider pairing floral themed wallpaper with rattan furniture for an easy, laidback vibe.
