Luxo Aldona, Goa

Borrowing design elements from different eras, the interiors of Luxo Aldona exude old-world charm

We love seeing history beautifully preserved and that’s what Luxo Heritage Homes are all about – holding on to Goa’s culture and history through century-old homes. Along with Architect Rita Mody, they have wonderfully restored and curated Luxo Aldona, a heritage home in Aldona, Goa.

Get inspired by the cerulean blue and crisp white exterior featuring traditional Goan architectural elements like pillared verandahs, tiled, gabled roof or a porch at the entrance called balcao with stone benches and decorative timber fascia that hide rafter ends.

The predominantly white interiors are equally impressive. Take a cue from the living room and add colour to white walls with a decorative dado rail, with the bottom section painted a soothing ochre. The same pattern has been used on the flooring tiles, tying in the entire room.

To replicate this style in your homes, pick a few pieces of dark wood period furniture and make them the focal point of the room. We love the traditional chaise lounges, medallion-back cabriolet armchairs in the living room and consoles fitted with hand-painted Azulejos tiles.

Replicate this look with a few dramatic pieces like the chaise lounge. The patterned floors have been left bare save for a small carpet anchoring the seating area. Ceramic plates and artwork hung in alcoves complete the look.
Damask upholstered armchairs perfectly match the marble top centre table and are a great way to complete a seating area in the living room.
A tiled backsplash in the kitchen is the perfect way to bring in patterns and colour. They are easy to clean, making it perfect for areas behind the stove top and sink that get dirty easily.
Gauzy, sheer curtains on the traditional four-poster bed form the focal point of this bedroom. Bring in a bed bench with cabriole legs and a runner placed under it.
Get inspired by the floors in this bedroom and visually section areas with different flooring materials. The sleeping area has a wood panelled flooring while the rest of the room has floral patterned tiles.
Bring in a little colour with tile panels on the furniture. In the bathroom, cerulean walls are balanced by neutral, mosaic flooring.
When choosing a dramatic colour for a bathroom like this beautiful emerald green, break it with a central dado rail in a complementing colour or pattern.
