Just like the people it hosts from Jackie Kennedy to Lord Mountbatten, chic and vibrant, Sujàn Rajmahal Palace, Relais & Chateaux is a master class in stylish living complete with a stunning marble staircase, elaborate chandeliers, and treasured family possessions
Who doesn’t love a good jugalbandi between patterns and prints – bright colours, bolder motifs vying for their rightful place in the décor? Of course, it takes an expert eye to discern, edit and curate it well. And who better than the prodigious Adil Ahmad to show us how?
Each of the wallpapers and fabrics have been specially designed for every room, telling the many stories of Jaipur, its rulers, their legacies and the collective history of the Kingdom of Amer. Motifs and colours chosen reinforce the theme of the rooms and become a defining backdrop for the furniture and other elements.
The buta, the cypress, the floral patterned borders, the geometric shapes, are all inspired from the stone carvings that embellish the forts, palaces and havelis of Jaipur. Adil’s work on the rooms at Sujàn Rajmahal Palace, Relais & Chateaux is a testament on how one can use a medley of all and yet strike a balance. We love how the luscious pinks sit with poise next to delicious greens and the sumptuous blues.
A simple learning to take back is that nothing is good or bad, too much or too less. If it works for you, it works.
