A peek into the interiors of the Haymarket by Scandic hotel in Sweden
Housed in a former iconic Paul Urbanus Bergström department store – the same one where Greta Garbo once worked – Haymarket by Scandic has firmly held on to its roots. Designed by Stockholm-based architecture and interior design company Koncept, the 405-room hotel is decked from floor to ceiling with details inspired by Old Hollywood, the Roaring Twenties and the Art Deco movement.
Stepping in to the deep red gallery-style foyer, one is greeted by gilded surfaces- a massive glass chandelier made up of pendant crystal vases, peacock feather prints, patterned floors, and brass balcony railings. In the rooms, powder and turquoise blues have been paired with soft pinks and maroons and marble countertops balance out the richness of soft velvet couches.
The look has been dramatized by contrasting embellishments like rose gold faucets, flamingo motifs, monkey lamps, the Beetle chair by Gubi in palm print upholstery, customised lamps from Rubn, contemporary Scandinavian furniture from &Tradition, and cane pieces from Sika Design. Take a cue and work shades of gold, along with symmetrical geometric patterns into your décor. Muted, repeat prints on the walls, geometric floor tiles and patterned brass railings work well with this look. Powdery pastels, sleek marble, plush velvets, and dressing tables fringed by open spotlight bulbs round off this ‘20s decadence inspired’ style, if you are looking for a bit of drama in your decor.
