Walk into this light-filled dreamscape with a view to match
It’s no secret that we have a soft spot for the Serendib island. And it’s not just the sun, sand and surf that call out to us. It’s more the people. You are never too far away from a warm smile or a warmer hug. And perhaps why we find ourselves making a beeline for Ceylon sliders, a minimalist beachfront building on Galle Road in Weligama bay with views over Indian ocean, and a traditional colonial house at the back with a private gate towards the backstreets of Weligama town, it pays homage to the nomadic surf lifestyle with a gentle nod to the island’s heritage.
The rooms are named after places where the founders have found inspiration and the walls are filled with artwork and photography from the different places. Tall ceilings, raw finishes and airy design together with the bustling café and shop downstairs make this an inspiring space. The ocean view suites come with large balconies, while the rooftop offers panoramic views and daily yoga classes. The colonial house in the back with a library and three rooms offers greater privacy.
Perched in between the two is the courtyard; the heart of the house, with a unique café focusing on simple, organic and fresh cooking, and, great coffees. After all, who can say no to a cup of good coffee, even in the land of Arrack!
