A casual dining restaurant in the national capital has some great décor corners that you can emulate in your own home
Coast Café in New Delhi was designed as an extension to boutique store Ogaan, when the owner Aashti Bhartia commissioned Studio Lotus to build a café with an attached bar. The firm was already working on the renovation of the store and the idea with the design of the café was to take that renovation forward, with a focus on a handcrafted material palette.
Every corner has an individual detail that is unexpected and offers details we found inspiring. We love the neutral palette used across the restaurant, the exposed white brick wall that works well as a backdrop to set off the rest of the décor and the striking art on the walls made by artists who were specially commissioned for this project. The chairs, made of oiled teak and cane, are another charming detail. Lastly, while not many of us would have the luxury of stairs in our house, Coast Café’s staircase, made of purpose-built in milled iron and teak, and inspired by the form of a seashell, makes us want to get one for our future retirement bungalow by the river.
