Set on the slope of Shamla Hill in Bhopal, Jehan Numa Palace showcases a balance of British Colonial, Italian Renaissance and Classic Greek architecture. The interiors of this 19th century heritage property display two styles that dominate the hotel: monochromatic with a hint of a modern and neutral with bursts of colour and ethnic patterns. Both styles are equally opulent and feature traditional elements.
Take a cue from the monochromatic rooms to balance large white walls with black details. Elevate the colour scheme with gold highlights like picture frame mouldings, door handles and table legs. If white and black are too stark for you, infuse colour and richness with tufted velvet sofas in cool greys and blues.
Spaces with muted wall colours and stone flooring were brought to life with dark colonial furniture, tribal artwork and ethnic furnishings. Emulate this neutral décor with pockets of rich fabrics like silks and velvets in traditional prints as seen in Jehan Numa Palace with throw pillows, blinds and bed runners. In the lobby, wood mouldings add an element of drama to the ceiling while splashes of cranberry, blue and deep green enliven the room.
When going in for a black and white colour scheme, balance both colours for contrast. This patio is bathed in white and natural light, making the space appear open and airy. The black, cane chairs add interest while a diamond patterned flooring breaks the monotony of solid chunks of colour.
The black and white colour palette extends to the Palace Suite where greys, gold and blue elevate the monochromatic scheme. When working with black on wardrobes and doors, add highlights like gold fixtures. The simple golden mouldings break the monotony of the white walls.
Keeping your walls a neutral shade allows you to add rich colours, prints and textures to a space. A traditional central chandelier with minimal flourishes along with recessed lights provides ample ambient lighting.
Maintaining symmetry with furniture, layout and décor accents can be quite appealing in monochromatic rooms. Identical table lamps, wall sconces and bedside tables flank the centrally placed, embellished bed.
We love the window seating that can be made into a private nook with the help of heavy, pleated drapes. If a four-poster bed is too heavy for your room, take a cue and work in two columns and an upholstered headboard.
Traditional prints and pockets of colour elevate the neutral scheme of the room. Using beige as the base colour, infuse life into your surroundings with rich fabrics and prints in jewel tones.
