Talent spotting or design excellence, get a dose of inspiration at this annual Parisian design fair
One of the most important bi-annual fairs, Maison et Objet will be on from September 7-11, 2018. The house and object show is the place to be to spot new talent, discover the latest home decor trends and get inspired from some of the most amazing product design in the world. Here's a quick look at what's new and what you need to watch out for at the fair this year.
Format change
We love discovering new products, designers and design techniques. From this edition Maison will now be split into four categories, Unique & Eclectic, Today, Forever and Craft while Objet is split into seven – Cook & Share, Smart Gift, Fashion Accessories, Kids & Family, Home Accessories, Home Fragrance, Home Linen.
Designer of the Year
Every edition, a fresh yet formidable talent is chosen to represent the aesthetic of the fair and this year it is Belgian designer Ramy Fischler. Based in Paris, his works span from a sleep device and bespoke furniture to designing offices for Twitter in Paris and a community kitchen. What we love the most about his work is his sensitive and unique approach to each of the projects – each different as chalk and cheese.
Inspiration
Fashion and design are two sides of the same coin – so while fashion makes a conscious move towards sustainability, design can’t be far behind. This year’s Inspiration for Maison et Objet is Virtuous. Brought to life by Vincent Grégoire from trend agency NellyRodi, the theme explores the shift in consumer behaviour from impulsive and reckless to discerning and planet-friendly.
