Cute side table ideas for living room - Beautiful Homes

For this three-bedroom in Andheri, Vibha Saraf, founder of Vcreate Designs, balanced a restrained aesthetic with rich layering and a generous dose of Asian Paints products

“At Vcreate, we aspire to create beautiful, sensible and personalised spaces, and ensure comfort through minimalist sensibilities. To do so for this space was especially exciting,” says Vibha Saraf, founder of Vcreate Designs. For this Andheri apartment, Saraf had to master a somewhat delicate balancing act for a couple with rather disparate desires. While one of them sat at the minimal end of the spectrum, the other held up the bold, dramatic and statement-making end. She was, however, quick to spot the opportunity in the challenge of blending contrary tastes in one apartment. And providing material support was the diverse range of offerings dotting the ever-expanding portfolio of Asian Paints. What that led to has been a serene space that achieves pitch-perfect harmony between opposing styles. Saraf sheds light on how texture and material play took the centre stage in this home in the absence of colour.

Beautiful Homes (BH): What was the main focus while creating a balance between the bold and the understated?

Vibha Saraf (VS): Given the radically different preferences of the couple, Ragini Verma and Farooq Adam, we decided to make this space as an expression of both their personalities. The result is a is minimalistic, monochromatic home which is artfully layered with elements that spark visual interest. Since we were going with the ‘less is more’ look, we kept the colour palette almost Zen-like. And because of that, layering took centre stage. We also made sure that the home interior design details for all the rooms melded into one another.

BH: How did you inject colour and texture into a minimal framework?

VS: We did it throughout the rooms. The living room is crisp, white and monochromatic with a lot of material play and different textures highlighting the space—hairline brass, warm teakwood, plush whites, marble, gold accents and sleek lines. The griege-coloured carpet that shades off to mustard yellow enhances the material palette, sculptural artefacts and circular forms that are seen in the table tops and the curved wall panelling, which add softness to the space.

In the balcony, we added bold and geometric black-and-white tiles for the floor and complemented that with warm rattan and cane for a rustic touch. The colours are minimal here as well, with just green coming through from the plants.

Elegant curtain ideas for your room - Beautiful Homes

The Cream Drop texture paint from Asian Paints’ Marmorino range has been used on the living room wall; the upholstery and curtains are from the Pure collection by Asian Paints and the rug is from Jaipur Rugs; the floor lamp is from Dekor Company; the coffee table and the wall panel were both custom-made by Saraf.

The master bedroom is very minimal and has whites and warm woods. For this Mumbai interior design project, we incorporated traditional Indian elements into the guest bedroom, such as ornate brass accents and intricate wooden carvings, while still maintaining a modern and minimalist aesthetic throughout the space.

BH: Was there a specific reason you chose to go with what Asian Paints had to offer, not just in terms of paint but furnishings as well?

VS: I used Asian Paints products for my first project and have been watching the brand's evolution and expansion into home decor. For this 3BHK house design project, layering and textures were very important for this monochromatic house. Fortunately, we were able to find what we needed with Asian Paints. This project was a chance to really explore the diversity of offerings from the brand.

BH: Can you give examples of how you used the brand’s products around the house?

VS: We used a lot of the texture paint from Asian Paints, as well as their range of soft furnishings. In the dining room, we created a deep-red artwork on-site, inspired by a design of Atelier Plateau (founded by Danish architects Anne Ejlsmark Berthelsen and Mikkel Johnsen).[A1] [MSR2]  For this, we used a custom red from the Asian Paints’ Marmorino range. The statement crockery unit is finished in a matte Buttercream shade, also from the brand, as is the concrete texture paint on a living room wall that backgrounds the custom-designed bookshelf. The upholstery and soft furnishings are all from the Pure collection.

BH: How was the journey of designing this house, from the challenge of merging two very different styles into a seamless space?

VS: Material selection is very important while doing a monochromatic house, as was the case here; it involves removing colours from the equation and focusing on textures, tones, finishes and lines. Layering took on significance even as we kept the colour palette almost Zen-like in its minimalism. Our aim was to bend the rules of a strictly monochromatic look, making the space more home-like and less formulaic.
