Now that the design direction is set, it’s time to lay the foundation for on-site work
Work on the Bajaj Home Project is on track. With the look set, it’s time to get down to the big stuff: material selection, management, and on-ground execution. The Beautiful Homes Service (BHS) team is now in action, getting into the details and getting things done.
Interior designer Jason Wadhwani says, “So, BHS handled a large chunk of the interior work with regards to the carpentry, the civil works, plumbing, painting, and polishing. But besides being a contracting service, it was really good because they managed to help us with our design detailing with regards to the sampling of wainscotting, the mouldings, which made it much easier for Sonia to select the final product.”
Co-ordination between so many vendors, suppliers and points-of-contact can be a tedious task. That’s what the BHS team takes care of, with a streamlined task system. BHS Customer Experience Specialist Namita Kaur says, “We had to define what each team had to do, from wainscotting to carpentry. One of my key tasks here is to handle execution and coordinate with the project manager and the general contractor.”
The Beautiful Homes Service team also presents the designs to Sonia for approval. Once she signs off on them, they send across a detailed quotation with cost break-ups. And, once the numbers are approved, the timelines are set and the project moves ahead.
However, even in the best situations, things can go off-track, especially with so many moving parts involved. But Sonia, Jason, and the BHS team find their way around the problem and come up with timely solutions.
The comfort level with the designer plays a big part in things moving smoothly. Says Sonia, “In any design journey it is extremely important to have a comfort level with the designer and a synergy to really be on the same page. There were a few design hiccups. The TV unit for instance. The way we envisaged it in the original layout was different from the way it panned out.”
Sonia created a clean, neutral palette that could be layered with other tones and accents.
She continues, “So we debated it a bit and finally worked out a creative solution for it in terms of fortifying it, beefing up the support and also changing the original location of it to also make it more aesthetic.”
Jason agrees, adding: “Of course, as with any project over a period of time, material selections evolve, colour palettes change, but it’s in the same design environment as we conceived it to be.”
The design may have evolved from the original idea, but it’s moving in the right direction. With the first level of work done, it’s up to the Beautiful Homes Service team to tie everyone’s vision together.
