The 4BHK home in Mumbai designed by Neha Kachhara features an earthy palette that serves to unify the family’s different tastes
Any interior designer will tell you this – your home must reflect your personality, essentially a mix of the things you like. But what do you do when every family member's taste differs drastically? For interior designer Neha Kachhara, the answer lay in unifying the 2,500 sq ft space with an earthy palette and layering it with wooden elements that could be easily switched around for a fresh look. Her first move was to convert the six bedroom apartment into a four bedroom one to allow each member adequate space of their own.
A walk through the house reveals a whole gamut of neutral shades such as browns, beiges and tans. This isn’t just limited to the walls but extends to the furniture as well. Playing around with neutrals is easy. To add colour, you can upholster your furniture a bright shade, introduce a colourful console or even hang up some artwork. You can control how colourful you would like it to be with a simple addition or removal of accessories.
As far as personalising the space goes, Neha has thoughtfully accommodated everyone’s needs – a reading corner for the elderly couple; a walk-in wardrobe combined with a vanity and pastel hued bedroom for the daughter and a grey and black den, complete with projector and recliners for the movie aficionado son.
While we have no issues following rules, sometimes breaking them leads to better results. So, don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles in your house when decorating, the results might just surprise you.
