Taking care of your wooden furniture goes a long way in extending its life. Follow our tips to make them last longer

Your wooden furniture needs all the love it can get. If you’re the kind of person that always means to take better care of your furniture but somehow never gets around to it, you are not alone. We have all been there. Follow our tips to make your wooden furniture pieces last longer and look as good as the day you brought it home.

1. Avoid Moisture

While that seems obvious enough, most of us can never find a coaster at the exact time you need to put a glass down on your wooden table. Investing in coasters for key furniture pieces in the living room will help ensure that your guests don’t leave moisture rings on your favourite console table.  Avoid using wet mops to clean the surface of the table. A dry cloth used every week works just fine.

2. Dust Regularly

Dusting regularly will help prevent a coat of dust to form on top of your furniture. Keeping time aside every weekend to dust your furniture will go a long way in preserving their original sheen. Invest in a good feather duster or simply keep a lint-free piece of cloth (salvaged from your teeming wardrobe) handy for this purpose.

3. Avoid Direct Sunlight

Prolonged exposure to the sun will affect the top sheen on your furniture. Avoid placing furniture in places that receive direct sunlight, like next to a window that receives direct sunlight.

4. Polish Your Furniture from Time to Time

Polishing your furniture from time to time is a good idea for key pieces of furniture in your home. A good time period to give your furniture for polish would be every two years.

While most people don’t look for furniture to last a lifetime anymore, we all like our décor pieces to look as good as they can. Remembering to follow the steps above as a regular part of your home care routine will go a long way in extending your furniture’s life.

Use dry cloths instead of wet ones to clean your furniture.
