Parushni Agarwal of Nikoo Interiors gives us quick tips on how to decorate pint-sized homes

Doing up small spaces on a tight budget is as challenging as it gets. Firstly, there’s the extensive planning that one needs to do to ensure that every inch of a small space has been utilised to its maximum, and secondly, this optimisation has been done bearing in mind the cost implications. So as much as we would like a multi-functional, top-down, roll-up, or whatever new fancy technology led storage idea there may be, if its not cost effective, we might as well bid it goodbye.

So when StudioCREO, known for its affiliations with top of the line Italian furniture brands launched its new arm, Nikoo Interiors, which promised furnishing of a 2BHK flat in three lakhs, we sure were interested. “Taking the concept of adaptability forward, we are providing the first-time home buyers with a chance to get themselves a fully fitted home, which includes a sofa, a coffee table, a TV cabinet and a dining table for four,” says Parushni Aggarwal, Founder and Creative Director, StudioCREO. She adds, “The concept also includes a bed, wardrobe and 2 side-tables each for both the bedrooms.” Who better to give us quick, handy tips on making the most of your small space than someone who promises to fit your home in there lakhs. So, here Parushni tells us how to maximise small spaces:

Tips on how to make the space look bigger:

·    Use built-in furniture and shelves

·    Design in a way that natural light can find its way inside, a sunlit room feels more open and helps eliminate shadows that can make an enclosed area feel smaller

·    Try multi-functional furniture; For example, see if you can pull down a dining attached to a wall, or double up your study as a dining table

·    Highlight one aspect of the room with something that is visually stunning and captures your attention

Tricks to keep in mind while renovating your homes:

·    The first step is to select the right colour scheme. Choose the colour according to what the space will be utilised for, mostly white works best as a backdrop for most

·    Add a hint of glamour with objects in metallic finishes

·    Make the most out of the space by placing the furniture strategically, like place the couch against the longest wall available

A neutral palette helps the space looks brighter and bigger.

Stick to a neutral palette when you putting together your home for the first time, as it will give you the luxury of introducing colour through accessories, upholstery, bit by bit.

Maximise your space, for example, the space under the staircase can be fitted with a study or shelves to hold frames and accessories.

A full-white bed covered with a printed bedspread will not only make the space appear larger than it is but also add a hint of much need colour.
