Colour of the Year 2023 Silver Escapade is a great choice for walls

Incorporate silver on your walls with Silver Escapade - Beautiful Homes

Asian Paints’ Colour Of The Year embodies hope, wellness, celebration, and glamour. Here’s how you can incorporate silver on your walls with Silver Escapade

Each year, the Asian Paints ColourNext team does a deep-dive into consumer behaviour, consumption patterns, lifestyle changes, and socio-cultural trends to come up with a definitive shade for the times we live in. And 2023’s Colour Of The Year, Silver Escapade, fits perfectly.

The shade was chosen looking at the shifts the pandemic brought. Wellness and hope for the future emerged as the two most important design trends for the year ahead and this is the inspiration behind silver: synonymous with hope, festivities and glamour.

Silver has been the colour of auspicious new beginnings in India, straddling both tradition and modernity. In Indian homes, silver is usually incorporated in the form of décor: lighting, accent pieces, vases, sculptures, and in the pooja room. But the timelessness of the colour fits in with our hybrid lifestyles, making it a great choice for walls.

A SOFT ACCENT THAT ADDS ELEGANCE

Silver is not usually the first shade that comes to mind when you think of painting your walls, considering it’s shiny and reflective quality. Silver Escapade, however, is a quiet metallic that has a MacBook-like finish, with neutral sheen. Since it’s neither loud nor overwhelming, it works well with a variety of textures and artwork and complements whatever other accents and textures you may have at home. Building on the trend of hope and wellness, Silver Escapade is a comfy, empathetic silver with warm undertones; which automatically makes it easy to work with.

Stylist and designer Sonali Thakur, is all for using it in everyday living spaces. She says, “Silver can be used in unique ways to add an iridescent quality to our interior designs —be it as an accent wall, a niche detail, a pattern such as a striped wall or stencilled motifs, painted silver furniture or even windows/ doors. Any of these ideas, when incorporated, can elevate the mood of a space making it almost celebratory of everyday living.”

And according to wedding designer Devika Narain, silver is a familiar and unfussy accent shade that can be used to elevate any space. “I love adding beautiful silver details to my home. Indian homes have had silver ware displayed for generations and it's a beautiful soft accent to bring into your home,” she says.

ADD A TOUCH OF SILVER TO YOUR WALLS WITH TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS

So silver can be woven into your spaces and on your walls…to show you how, our experts weigh in with theirs dos, don’ts and hows.

Stylish Home Interior Designer Sonali Thakur - Beautiful Homes

Interior designer and stylist Sonali Thakur suggests using Silver Escapade on the ceiling as a surprise element or on a textured wall for a bold statement.

Sonali’s Tips

Pairing: Owing to the cool tonality of silver, one can pair it with cool toned colours for an exaggerated effect or with warmer tones to balance the warmth in a space. For eg., a dark grey or a navy blue when paired with silver can provide a sharp and edgy contrast in a bigger space. With a medium cool tone like a lavender, it can make for a very romantically pleasing setting. Whereas, when paired with warm tones like a sunny yellow or a hot pink, a silver can offset the heat and bring the glamour quotient!

Avoid: Don't paint all the walls of your space in a Silver that has a strong hue/ tonality which can quickly turn overbearing. Picking the right shade is key. A soft muted silver (like Silver Escapade) could also be used to create a cocoon like space.

Top tip: Silver Escapade is a soft pearly shade. So anyone looking to achieve subtle glamour in their spaces could very easily start with this colour, in the form of a painted ceiling or an accent wall. Applied to a plain wall, it works as a perfect muted backdrop; whereas, on a textured wall, it intensifies the colour and makes more of a statement.

Devika’s Tips

Pairing: Silver is such a wonderful colour to work with. Depending on your style, you can pair it with muted beiges and whites or a deep palette. I enjoy complementing it with more natural materials like marble, stone, greens.

Avoid: Don't cover an entire room in it. Pick your silver as an accent. It's great to use in entryways, loos and living rooms but I'd keep it away from bedrooms.

Top tip: Try a small bit (of Silver Escapade). Paint a wall by the entrance or an accent wall elsewhere—once it grows on you, bring it in more. Complement it with silver cushions or with silver details on your tables.

Home Interior Designer Devika Narain - Beautiful Homes

Wedding designer Devika Narain loves adding silver touches to her home and says that for walls, it’s better to start small and gradually bring in more of the colour.

The potential with a colour like Silver Escapade is almost limitless. So start small, and see where the journey takes you!
