At a loss on how to decorate your terrace? Get inspired by these five terraces we love

If planned right, your terrace can become your go-to spot to escape from hectic city living, even if temporarily. Think of it as an extension of your living room, if you’re at a loss for where to start decorating it. Keep the essentials in mind – a small lightweight table, a few chairs and several potted plants. If it receives harsh sunlight, build a canopy with some light cotton fabric to filter it in. Last but not the least, don’t forget the lights! String up several fairy lights or paper lanterns to give your terrace an ethereal glow at night.

If you have a large enough terrace, accommodate a small, round coffee table here with wireframe chairs to create a breakfast / afternoon tea spot. To stay protected from the harsh sun, consider building a canopy overhead.

Section off your terrace in the subtlest way possible – by using large pots and planting them with large fronds or tall grasses. For ease of movement, place light, streamlined furniture in this space.

If you don’t want to invest in a movable outdoor sofa, a built-in one is your best bet. As for the cushions, you can always add or remove them as per your need, making it easier to keep them clean. For extra seating, you can always place more chairs.

Cover one half of your terrace to create a pseudo-indoor area. Here, you can place fabric sofas, hurricanes, pouffes and even suspend pendant lamps from the roof to create an extended living room.

Don’t treat your terrace as an outdoor space but see it as an extension of your living room. On a wall, you can build narrow shelves to house your curios and travel finds, while in a corner, you can have a seating arrangement that can be used for family dinners as well.
