After months of painstaking work and coordination, the Bajaj home is ready

The Bajaj home started as a shell. And after months of prepping, planning and on-site work, the family has moved and settled in. Sonia Bajaj’s vision has been expertly brought to life by interior designer Jason Wadhwani and the Beautiful Homes Service (BHS) team.

Jason’s contemporary style plays off Sonia’s muted colour palette to give the home a minimal, functional, yet striking aesthetic.

On entering, the fluted glass and metal door opens into an all-white living room, which establishes the timeless-minimalist vibe of the home. The door is juxtaposed with Jason’s Art Deco elements, like the archways and light fixtures. He added curved edges along several surfaces to keep the space fluid.

After months of painstaking work and coordination, the Bajaj home is finally ready. Sonia Bajaj’s vision has been expertly brought to life by interior designer Jason Wadhwani and the Beautiful Homes Service (BHS) team.

Jason breaks up the monochrome with earthy colours. “I love working with a monochromatic palette because I think it offers a certain edge. To warm up a space which mainly has a lot of blacks and whites, I tend to use a lot of green,” he says.

Pops of colour are a theme in the bedrooms as well. Says Sonia, “So if you enter the master bedroom, there is this beautiful backdrop of veneered wooden panels. And that sets the tone for the entire colour language in the room. My favourite part of the entire house is my master bathroom which has these lovely grey terrazzo tiles punctuated with these beautiful black bathroom accessories.”

The children’s room moves away from the largely black and white elements in the rest of the house. The terrazzo flooring is paired with a rich green headboard fabric and a pretty, nature-inspired wallpaper in green and off-white. The pink subways tiles in the bathroom are a soft shade, fun and playful without being loud.

The den is Sonia’s husband Sachin’s zone, where he can relax and enjoy some me-time. “The reason the idea of this den came up was to create something where you could just come, relax, focus, concentrate, or watch television,” he says.

The theme of simple and functional extends to the unfussy galley kitchen, which was executed by the Sleek team at Asian Paints. Here, Sonia prioritised space and practicality over high design, which the team delivered. “They took it from concept to execution completely,” says Sonia.

She adds, “The project journey with BHS has been quite smooth, the professionalism and the effectiveness with which they addressed everything. From the standpoint of the design coming together, this is pretty much what we envisaged and I’m quite happy.”

The pandemic did throw up some unexpected delays, but neither Sonia nor Jason is complaining. Says Jason, “It took us two lockdowns to complete the space, but it’s well worth the wait because it looks amazing!”
