The sea is a key point of inspiration for the design of this stunning Barcelona hotel
At the ultra modern W Barcelona, it’s all about the city and the sea. The shimmering sail-shaped building occupies a coveted beach location along the famous Barcelona boardwalk affording guests panoramic ocean and city views. Designed by world-renowned architect Ricardo Bofill, W Barcelona has a strong millennial, bordering on futuristic, vibe to it.
The interiors draw inspiration from its surroundings; the rooms are kept airy and light with a predominantly neutral colour palette of white, cool greys and light tan with splashes of deep ocean blues, rich plums, and chocolate brown in the soft furnishings. The recently renovated ‘Fabulous rooms’ and ‘Cool Corner suites’ add another layer of the oceanic theme with a unique wave-effect carpet.
Take inspiration from their ‘Extreme Wow Suites’ and ‘Spectacular Suites’; the bedrooms feature light wood grain flooring and wall panels along with low, floating beds with sleek headboards and futuristic metal lamps flanking them. The spacious bathrooms feature white marble sinks, glossy faucets and back-lit mirrors. While a bathtub in the bedroom is more hotel-than-home, take a cue and place a free-standing bathtub in front of a floor to ceiling mirror to open up your space.
To achieve this look in your home, keep in mind a minimal design theme with low furniture and a neutral colour palette. Tan and white leather is used extensively throughout the space whether it’s the smooth, panel headboards, modern dining chairs or low sofas with matching ottomans. A sense of drama is added using luxurious velvet cushions in shades of purple and blue while rose gold and sleek silver accents in skinny lamps and side tables finish the look.
