The St +Art festival in Bengaluru brought together a host of artists from India and abroad
This October, the walls and streets of Bengaluru saw some unusual activity as 15 artists from India and abroad descended upon the garden city, to participate in the 2016 edition of the St +Art festival in Bengaluru.
A non-profit organization that works on art projects in urban spaces, the St +Art India Foundation has been organizing various editions of the street art festival in cities across the country. The idea behind St +Art has been to make art more accessible to the public, taking it from the closed walls of a gallery and into the public domain- on streets and city corners- in an effort to make art truly democratic, as their mission statement goes. In Bengaluru, some of the key locations where artists used the public space as their canvas included MG road, Ulsoor main road, Church street, Indiranagar and the MG road, Cubbon Park and Majestic metro stations. The artists involved in the Bengaluru edition included Indian artists like Inkbrushnme, Aravani Art Project, Sameer Kulavoor, Daku, Shilo Shiv Suleiman, Anpu, Appupen and international artists like Artez (Serbia), Daan Botlek (Netherlands), Dan Goldman and Ram Devineni (USA) and Remed (France). This initiative is supported by Asian Paints alongwith a host of other domain partners.
